A nurse-midwife is a wonderful option for well-woman and gynecological care as we have expertise in taking care of your lady parts. We care for women of all ages and practice evidence based guidelines. The visits are discrete and clients will be provided a warm cloth gown and cozy socks. In addition to annual visits, the midwives at DMA are highly trained to counsel women regarding family planning options, including contraceptive and pre-conception counseling. Furthermore, the midwives are knowledgable in basic infertility treatments and can perform intrauterine insemination treatments.
Clients at DMA will have longer appointment times. Our goal is for women to feel heard and respected throughout their pregnancy and our office is designed with this in mind. We encourage your family and birth team to attend prenatal visits for your comfort. Pregnant women will have their belly checks done on a settee, rather than a gynecology table and the midwives will assist the client with taking their own vital signs and weight at each visit. We also perform all pregnancy related ultrasounds. During the ultrasound experience, clients will be involved and understand the results in real time.
During the labor and delivery experience, DMA midwives will provide labor support in the hospital, meaning midwives will be hands on and present during your labor. We will work diligently with you and your birth team to ensure a positive birth experience.
Our goal is to ensure that all of our mothers feel supported and connected during the “fourth trimester” after their birth. DMA midwives will visit each client in the hospital between 24 and 48 hours following their birth. Clients will also receive a phone call at one week postpartum, and will then return to DMA for a check-up at two and six weeks. DMA midwives are always accessible by phone for additional postpartum support.
